Thaumatropes

Thaumatropes were introduced as simple toys that consisted of a card (a circle of card) and string. A different picture is drawn on both sides and when the card rotates on the string it creates the illusion that the two pictures are together as one picture.

Color- Hue
ex.

Value- lightness or darkness of color (tone).
ex.
Balance- opposites balance out (dark vs light; big vs. small)
ex.

Gradation- produce linear perspective   (warm to cool ; dark to light)
ex.

Repetition- repeats the same design or shape (monotonous) repeat the same design or shape but modifying it slightly makes it interesting.
ex.

Contrast- opposing elements (opposites)
ex.

Harmony- similar, complimenting elements.
ex.
